Every January it's the same thing. People stumble about to create an acceptable New Years Resolution, only to be disappointed a week later when they buy an ooey gooey brownie from Whole Foods, skip their run in favour of watching the new season of The Bachelor, or have one glass of wine too many at their friend's house. I am not a negative person, but this does seem to be the trend. Right?
In an effort to avoid this the-only-way-is-down slope, I decided to go for something a little bit different this year. Something easy enough to achieve, something concrete and attainable (we've all done the "I will be a better person" one before), and best of all, something fun. I know what you are thinking: She resolved to start this blog, way to go Kate! You've done it!" Well, thanks for your support, but no, this blog is only a part of the much larger scheme at hand here. Yes, scheme. Ready for it?
Here goes:
Since my birthday is January 2nd, I am pretty much one age for each year. This year, I had the (mis)fortune of celebrating my 29th birthday. One last year of my 20's. Aaaand cue panic attack. But, being the bright-siding person that I am, I decided to turn it into a bit of a game - I do love a good game. So, each month this year, I have written down a goal for myself. Something I have been wanting to try, something that is good for my body and soul, or something that can benefit the people and places around me.
This blog is my motivation. If I fail to achieve a goal and no one was around to notice, does it still count as a failure?
Whether I have one reader (thanks Mom) or one hundred, this blog gives me a stronger sense of responsibility towards each of my twelve goals. It's going to be a great year. I've got that hopeful January feeling!
