My goal this month was simple - and as with June's, involved sunshine and ocean. It was to try something new. And that something new was paddle boarding. I only made it out twice, but it was great fun. I didn't get any pictures of myself or my friends actually paddling (iPhones and oceans don't always mix), but the memories in my mind are as clear as a bell. Especially on this rainy November evening. Let me paint you a picture:
*And speaking of pictures. This is one I took at Third Beach. Love.
Paddle 1 - The Lord of the Lake
Participants: Liana, Stu, Phil, Kate
We woke up in the Okanagan
Packed the car up tight
On our way back home we were
In time for sleep that night
But from our rolled down windows
We saw the rippling water
Of good old Okanagan Lake
It made us feel much hotter
The car was stopped, the bathing suits
Removed in such a flurry
We had to stop there for a swim
Get in that water, hurry!
We quickly spotted something else
Sailing by and by
Paddle boards amidst the waves
We must give those a try!
So after detailed lessons from
The Lord of that fine lake
We hopped aboard the paddle boards
And prayed for no mistakes
The waves were few and far between
Pint in size at best
And so our paddles glided by
Our minds were put to rest
A successful day, we all had had
Out on those big strong boards
We packed back up the little car
Got ready for the roads
But not before that high strung lord
Had one last flustered word
He told us of his pains and woes
And after we had heard
He gave us gift cards, "come again!"
Don't be afraid of me
I'm just the lord of this fine lake
A friendly one, you'll see
We tried our best to be polite
And headed on our way
A lovely detour to the drive
Was had by four that day
Paddle 2 - Blustery Jericho - A Haiku
Participants: Nicole, Pete, Fanny, Ian, Fanny's friends, Phil, Kate
Waves crashed against us
We fell, we laughed, we struggled
Our souls breathed it in
Well there you have it friends. July and the paddle board adventures were a success! I hope I painted you a bit of a picture of the water adventures we had. xo
